The American School of Las Palmas
ASLP is a co-educational educational institution incorporated in the USA, registered and recognized by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Deporte (M.E.C.D.) in Spain. ASLP serves students from nursery to twelfth grade, using an American educational program coordinated with the Spanish system, which applies the theories and most effective international educational practices. Our curriculum is academically demanding, preparing our students to access any post-secondary education institution of their choice. The multicultural and multilingual student body reflects our commitment to embracing a caring and inclusive environment that allows our students to be positive, thoughtful and responsible participants in an increasingly complex global community.
Pre-School
The early years set the stage for a child’s future. ASLP strives to make school a positive experience for each child by providing an atmosphere that fosters growth in all areas of the child’s development. Taking into consideration the needs of young children, we provide a variety of formal-informal, large group-small group and individual activities that lay a strong foundation in all basic skills while introducing the English language as the main language of communication and instruction. The English instructional program is an “immersion” program in the early years.
Elementary School
The Elementary School lays the foundation for the core academic subjects: Math, Balanced Literacy (including Reading, Writing, Phonics, Vocabulary, and Grammar), Social Studies and Science. All students work in a variety of formats in order to build their emerging skills and abilities as young scholars. English support is offered to those students who need additional English language development. For students entering from schools outside of Spain, Spanish support is also available. Physical Education, Art and Music are offered across the Elementary program. Technology is integrated into the curriculum in each subject area as appropriate.
